Member Tutorial: How to add credits to your Professional Development Journal

When you attend SMEI events, such as webinars, you will automatically get credits added to your journal valid towards your certification renewal. If you attend third party events or perform other activities that qualify for Professional Development Hours (PDHs), you can record them in the professional development journal in your member account. Just follow these easy steps and you'll have a record that you can refer to when you submit your annual certification renewal.

Step 1

Log in to your member account at at

If you are already logged in, just click on the "My Profile" link as shown below:

Click on Quick Links and Professional Development Journal:

Click on "Add Entry":

Complete the fields in the dialogue box to add your journal entry. See further instructions below.

Descriptions of the fields on the form:

Is this entry for a certificate or program? Select the "Yes" radio button.

Certification/Program: This is a dropdown list of certifications that are available for renewal credit. Select "CME, CSE, SCPS or SCPM Professional Development Credit"

Credit Type: This field is to select the credit-types for a journal entry. The correct selection is "PDH".

Entry Date: The entry date would be the date that the credits were earned or awarded.

Description: This should be a brief description of how the credits were earned, such as the name of a conference, workshop or the name of a class along with the name of the instructor.

Credits: This is the number of credits of a single credit type that were earned. Typically one hour = 1 PDH. One day conferences usually qualify for 6 PDHs.

Credits Expire: The date the credits will expire. You can leave this field blank.

Score %: If the credits were earned through a quiz or test, the score can be included here. Otherwise this should be left blank.

Activity Code: Leave this field blank.

Attachments: Here you can upload any verifying evidence or documentation of the credits being earned, such as a certificate, printout, or waiver.
