Posting a classified ad

There are two ways that classifieds can be added:

Both methods are explained below

Posting a classified ad as a site administrator

Any site administrator can add a classified ad to the classified module at any time.  To do so, click the Classifieds link from the admin area.

You will see a listing of all existing classified ads, along with details about each ad including the approval status, title, post date, and contact.  You can click the name of an ad to edit it, or you can click Add a New Classified Ad in the upper right to create a new ad.  In either case, you'll see the following fields:

Posting Status

Posting Detail

Click Submit to save or modify the ad.

You can also make a copy of an existing add by clicking the icon to the right of an ad.  You will be prompted for a name for the new ad.  Then you can click the copied ad's name to make any other edits you wish.

Posting ads as a member or visitor

You can allow members and visitors to post classified ads themselves if you wish.  To do so,  you must enable the publish link for the Classifieds module.  To do so:

  1. Go to the Admin - Assn Defaults link.

  2. Click the Modules tab at the top.

  3. Under the "Classifieds" heading, find the "Enable publish link in classifieds?" field.  Choose "Yes" if you want a link on the front-end Classifieds page that allows people to publish their own classified ads.  Choose "No" if you only want site administrators to publish ads.

  4. If you choose "Yes" for the previous field, then you can decide whether to restrict ad publishing to active members, or whether you want to allow any site visitor to publish ads.  Look for the "Restrict publishing access for job bank (lite)?" field.  You can set it to "Yes" to only allow active members to post ads, or set it to "No" to allow any site visitor to publish ads.

    NOTE:
If you restrict the entire module to active members only by setting the "Restrict viewing access for job bank (lite)?" field to "Yes," then only active members can publish ads, regardless of the setting you make for ad publishing.

If you have enabled the posting link, then anyone who comes to your Classified module on the front end will see a link at the top that says Submit Classified for Listing.  Clicking this link will take them to a form with all the fields mentioned under Posting Detail above.  Once they post the ad, the Classified Contact will receive an email (see Setting up recipients of system notification emails), and will need to review and approve the ad by editing the ad as described above.
